Solicitation Letters

Solicitation letters are elaborate documents making pleas for donations or for considering one’s agency for further contracts. As the task of soliciting for favours is a little complex, the exact way of handling the pressure must be known to the applicant. Solicitation has a legal undercurrent as it involves convincing individuals for special treatments that may become impossible in certain contexts. Therefore, the applicant must be fully aware of the existing norms and the probable areas of getting penalised.

Every single fact may not be written in one solicitation letter. The information can be taken slowly one step at a time. The request should be presented without bombarding the recipient with too many details and yet keeping the essence of the matter clear. The gist of the solicitation should be recalled in short, in limited length and extravaganza.

These points should be kept in mind while drawing up a solicitation letter:

  • The nature and amount of favour expected from the recipient must be specifically written down.
  • The purpose for seeking the favour must be duly stated.
  • The contact information must be reiterated for the recipient to re-establish contacts.
  • A note of thank you should be given at the end of the letter.
