Holiday letters are a good way of keeping in touch with friends with whom you are not in touch on a regular basis.  These letters are generally addressed to the circle of people with whom you wish to remain in contact.

It is best to take time and address individual persons rather than dash off one mail to your entire set of friends.  However, if you are short of time, you can have one common letter for all your friends.  Just make sure you end it with a personal note individually at the end of the letter.  This will definitely make your letter more personalized and meaningful.

It is good to keep the letters short and sweet. You can focus on a couple of major events in your life or in the family.  However, it is best to avoid raving about successes and professional achievements.  The letters should not read like a list of yours or your family members’ achievements.   The letters should help your friends get a glimpse of what your life has been like in the past one year or so.

Holiday letters are also a good way of keeping your friends updated about mutual acquaintances and friends.  It can be a nice way of exchanging news about others, but it is best to avoid negative comments on anyone.

If your letters are addressed to business associates, then it is best to keep the content to business growth and other achievements.  This is also a good opportunity to include a line of appreciation and gratitude to them for conducting business with you.
