Appropriate Salutation for Business Letter

It is necessary that a business letter sounds formal and up to the point expressing the purpose clearly. The words need to be appropriately used and letter should not sound informal at all or else that can leave a negative impression on the mind of the person to whom the letter is addressed to.

In order to make the letter sound formal it is necessary for the sender to use appropriate salutation. It is necessary for the sender to know some basic details of the person he is writing the letter. Using salutation before the last name of the recipient is a formal way of addressing person. The various salutations that can be used in a letter are:

  • Mr.
  • Miss.
  • Mrs.

In order to use appropriate salutation it is first of all necessary for the sender to know whether the recipient is a male of a female. Once the gender of the recipient is confirmed, the sender can use the salutation ‘Mr.’ in case of a male recipient and can use ‘Miss’ or ‘Mrs.’, in case of a female recipient . In case of female it is also necessary to know the age group of the recipient and whether she is married or a not. An inappropriate salutation can leave a negative impact.
